Over a 10-year period ending in December 1970, Bernard Keyter (b. 1918), a supervisor at the South African Institute for Medical Research in Johannesburg, South Africa, personally milked 780,000 venomous snakes and obtained 3960 litres (870 gallons) of venom for research and serum production. He was never bitten. |
